Bed Post

Odysseus built his entire house around an olive tree. The olive would have been a staple item to the Greeks, but more commonly in literature the olive tree would have been symbolic of peace. Odysseus' use of the olive tree as a bed post may have been representative of the peace within the love between Odysseus and Penelope. Odysseus anger when Penelope asks her maidservant to move the bed, might have been an expression of Odysseus' wrath on anyone who would want to cause strife between him and Penelope.
